The fan clutch is a component of the engine cooling system in a vehicle. Its primary function is to control the operation of the engine cooling fan to help regulate the temperature of the engine.

 It works by engaging and disengaging the engine cooling fan based on the temperature of the engine. When the engine is running hot, the fan clutch will engage the cooling fan to help draw more air through the radiator, which assists in cooling the engine. When the engine is running at a lower temperature, the fan clutch will disengage the fan, allowing it to freewheel and reduce the load on the engine.
